Today was mostly a driving day. We needed to make up some ground because we spent a bit longer than anticipated at Phillip Island and Wilson's Prom. Hunter is also finally getting the hang of driving on the opposite side and the crazy roads they have. In one city they have a right turn from the left lane, very weird!
In the morning we woke up a bit late on the cattle farm our Air BnB was on. We had yummy raisin bread toast our hosts provided. We also went and looked at the cows who were a little apprehensive about saying hello to me. We then left and went to the start of the 90 mile beach at McLaughlin beach. Here we took a footbridge across the ocean to an island with the beach on it. It was so windy here that they actually have a sign showing you can be blown away.

Good morning cows!
For some reason the put the railing on the side the wind was blowing from rather than in place to catch you if you were blown away.
Our next stop was lakes entrance which was about a 2 hour drive. Here we had Macca's! Macca's is Australian McDonald's. After looking at the menu we found the best deal was a share box with 2 larger burger, 2 small burgers, 4 small sodas, and a family fry. The family fry was pretty cool since we don't have those in North America. For our burgers we got a bacon jam burger, a bacon lovers burger, a cheese burger, and a chicken and cheese burger. It was a lot of food but only cost $15 USD. We were so full after we needed to take a walk to try and digest it. We went to a lookout point to see over the lakes entrance into the ocean. We then went across a footbridge to an ocean beach. It was very sandy and our shoes became mini beaches.

A funny tree we saw. If you know what it is, comment at the bottom of the post!
We got back into our car and started driving further along the coast. We stopped at French Narrows near the mouth of the famous Snowy River. Here we could hear the loud crashes of waves along the sand dune, but couldn't see them. At first I thought it was thunder! When we hiked back to our car, we took a moment to use our binoculars and were able to see different kinds of birds. We saw egrets and cormorants.
They have a very cool boardwalk in Australia that could work well in North America.
We continued along the winding roads through sunset which was beautiful. We then made it to the state line of Victoria and New South Wales. Even though it was dark, we had to take photos!
Finally after what felt like forever, we made it to the small town of Tathra. We were both very tired and had no problems falling asleep.

ReplyDeleteCheck out Araucaria heterophylla or araucaria excelsa for the weird tree.
