Back to the USA

A story by photos this time!

We woke up bright and early Friday (August 16, 2019), ate breakfast, and headed to the airport. Hunter was checking loads again. We wanted to arrive early to talk to the agent because we had to get a transfer code attached to our reservation. This made one of the massive fees for departures from London Heathrow go away, taking about $300 off our cost to return home.

Once we got our tickets, we passed through the fast track line for security and then headed to one of the lounges as we had about 45 minutes until we needed to go to the gate. The lounge was very nice with a full breakfast menu and a self serve area.

They had a (real) Diet Coke machine!

There were tons of options if you were hungry, but we were full from our hotel breakfast.

This was the menu at the lounge. We didn't order anything because we didn't have much time, but the options sounded lovely. After enjoying some early morning Diet Coke and cheese and crackers, we headed to our gate. We got cleared into business class on AA195 London to Phoenix, this time in seats 5D and H. These seats were faced backwards, so it was quite interesting.

Hunter got a newspaper to read. Yes it's a serious newspaper and really light pink, he explained this was originally done to save money.

This was our menu. I had the chicken and Hunter had the seafood.

The starter. The salad was a cranberry nut combination that was tangy.

The chicken dish. It was quite yummy. I really liked the pea potatoes.

Hunter's seafood dish. He's not sure he would order it again but was glad he tried it.

To top it off, Hunter and I both had ice cream. This is his sundae, which was delicious.

After eating, we watched a movie and then slept. Hunter fell asleep to a StarWars movie.

For our arrival meal, we had a sandwich. It was tasty, but needed more meat, as the bread to meat ratio was not great.

When we landed, we went to pass through US Customs and were first in line since our seats were right next to the door and we both used mobile passport. We arrived during a computer outage, so we had to wait about 30 minutes before they started manually processing us. Once we did get through, we headed to a gate for a flight to Vegas. It was tight and we barely made it! We were even more lucky when we got seats across the aisle from one another. As is typical for flights into LAS, we had a really bumpy approach. It was a lot of fun for us, but the flight attendants had a rough time trying to do their very quick service. While it wasn't quite a rollercoaster it was close!

We headed back to St. George to finish packing my things as we were headed to Kelowna on the 18th to move me back into school. The next day, as we were running errands, Hunter stopped at his work to get his laptop and ended up being asked to work for double time for a few hours. So while he worked, I went home and packed all my things into the car. When I was done, it was already time to go get Hunter!

Sunday morning we woke up super early and drove back to Vegas. When we got to the airport, Hunter dropped me off with our bags and he went and parked at the free transit center. It was a good thing I got there early as there was a big line to check bags. After checking in, we talked with the agent and found out we were 8th and 9th for 4 seats. This was not good news, but we hoped that people would miss a 6am Vegas flight on a Sunday morning. After what seemed like forever, we finally got cleared as many people didn't show up! The Dash-8 into YLW went quickly and smoothly once we got to SEA and it was a beautiful flight over the North Cascades. It also was Hunter's 99th international nonrev flight! I was excited to be heading back to school. It's my final year and I can't wait to see how it goes.

Till the next trip,
Stormy & Hunter
