Let's go!

A beautiful day in Kelowna

Today (October 10th) I had a midterm for one of my courses called Design of Water and Wastewater Conveyance Systems. I really like the course so far and the prof is really great. His humor pulls your attention in. The midterm was pretty easy, but now he is going to make the final much harder, which is unfortunate. I would much rather have a killer midterm and a decent final than the other way around.

After my midterm, I quickly went back to my apartment, got my bag, and headed to my last class of the day, Design of Processes for Water and Wastewater Treatment. Now this class is quite the adventure. The prof is good, but extremely challenging when it comes to testing. Her class tends to suck the energy out from all of us because the material is quite complex and any problem is very lengthy.

After class I quickly ran to the airport. One of my good friends Ed (thank you so much Ed!) drove me after class, because I was trying to pull off the impossible! My class ended at 4:50 and the flight to Vancouver I was going to take shut its door at 5:20pm, so I really needed to go go go! Our class ended 10 minutes early, so I had a few minutes to spare. When I arrived, luckily there was no line at the check in counter because we can't check in online, so I got my ticket and headed through security. Security, while not terribly long, turned out to take longer than hoped. The agent who was looking at the x-rays was pulling out every bag with liquids and taking them aside. I had to wait for two other people before my bag was checked. I looked at the clock, 5:10pm, and was worried I might miss the flight, but Kelowna is small and she quickly finished checking my bag, I shoved it back into my big bag and ran to the gate where I got my seat and departed.

The flight to Vancouver was quick, about 30 minutes. We arrived early which was great because I was now attempting the impossible... again! I needed to run to the US gates and try to make a connection to Seattle. Hunter and I figured it would be better to spend the night in the US than try to make the morning US departures from Vancouver. So as soon as I hit the ground, I ran, and ran, and ran some more until finally, I cleared security and customs for the US gates. I made it without 30 minutes to spare before the door was closing, but thankfully the flight was running a few minutes late so I was safe! I checked in at the counter with the gate agent and got a confirmed seat. I finally could sit down and catch my breath. Luckily there was a priority pass lounge right beside the gate, so I quickly went in and got myself a drink.

The flight to Seattle was again a quick 30 minutes. I arrived around 9pm and Hunter was scheduled to land at midnight. He drove to Vegas with a friend and then was flying to meet me. In Seattle, I went to one of the lounges and had some dinner. I had delicious pasta salad and some mac & cheese. I also booked us a hotel and scored a great deal by calling the hotel rather than just picking the online price! Definitely going to be trying this more often.

Here are some photos Hunter took on his flight LAS-SEA

Arrival in SEA

I met Hunter at his gate at 11:20pm as they were very early. We called the hotel and headed out to the shuttle pick up. Hunter was hungry and we wanted some food, and right beside the hotel was an IHop. I've never eaten there, but pancakes sounded quite tempting. Hunter ordered an omelette and as his side, I got the pancakes. While I ordered it to-go Hunter checked us into the hotel and showered. It was about a 20 minute wait, then I went to the hotel to meet Hunter. He was looking at flights for tomorrow and we decided to go to Portland to try the flight to London tomorrow evening. We still had to get up early and go in the morning, but it was looking pretty good. We ate our yummy dinner and then headed to bed.

Hunter and I woke up at 6am (October 11,2019), got dressed, and had a quick breakfast at the hotel. The shuttle took us to the airport and we made the flight to Portland. One of the people who was on our shuttle, a Horizon employee, was also on the flight. It was a quick 30 minute ride to Portland where we started our long 8 hour wait till the evening London departure.

There was an adorable service dog on our flight

Mt. St Helens and Spirit Lake Hunter told me about the eruption and the resulting destruction

Around 11, we went to Capers Market, a restaurant where we can use our priority pass. Hunter has the salmon risotto special and I had the rockfish tacos special. It was super tasty!

While waiting for our meal, Hunter checked the flight to Amsterdam that was leaving in about an hour. We figured we would try it even though it looked like we were definitely not going to make it. At check in cutoff, we were checked in and making it in delta one as a bunch of people didn't check in. We ran to the gate and got our seats. I was in 4B and Hunter was in 6A. While I was sad we were not together, it was nice to be in first class.

We boarded quickly and settled in. We departed 10 minutes early and were cruising along when lunch/dinner service started. The menu was delicious and I think the pictures speak for themselves.

After dinner Hunter and I both slept. Nearing arrival when we woke up, Hunter booked our KLM tickets from Amsterdam to Geneva and I found a good hotel.

For breakfast, as we were arriving at 7am, we had a truffle leek and mushroom frittata. It was good, but I think it needed more cheese.
