See You Next Time Geneva

Today is the day we leave (October 14, 2019)! We had looked at flights and even debated going to Zurich to find a flight with first-class back to the USA, but there was still a chance we would make the flights out of here in first, so we decided to stay. The first flight to Newark left at 9:30am so we had gotten up at 6 and took a 7am bus to the airport which was not very far away. We cleared through security and customs and waited at our gate. Unfortunately, someone else had now checked in for first-class, and it looked like we were not going to make it. We debated staying later till 11am for a flight to Washington that again looked tight for first-class but also had plenty of seats in the back. We decided to wait and see what seats we got on this flight before ditching for IAD. We were cleared in an exit row, so Hunter and I decided to go for it and take economy back to the USA. While it was not first-class, it really was not that bad of a flight. The extra legroom from the emergency exit really helped make the ride more comfortable. One cool thing about the airport in Geneve is that it is so small, you have to take a bus out to the large aircraft and climb a big set of stairs to get into the plane. Once we boarded, we waited for a couple more busses of people to arrive and then we took off.

Hopefully, sometime we can come back and explore the countryside. From the plane window, it looks beautiful.

I slept for most of the flight leaned over on Hunter. He is quite comfortable when I am tired.

For our first meal we had breakfast which I thought was an interesting choice because I felt more like lunch. There were three options, waffles with chicken, bacon and eggs, or a blueberry yogurt parfait. Hunter and I both picked the bacon and eggs. It was very yummy!

After breakfast, I was pretty much out until Hunter woke me up for the lunch service about an hour before arrival. They were serving turkey and cheese pretzel sandwiches. They were a little greasy, but yummy.

We arrived in Newark at noon. Hunter and I both cleared customs and then headed to the landside lounge called Art & Lounge. It wasn't that great of a lounge, but made for a nice waiting area with free drinks before our next flight. Hunter was flying to Vegas and I was flying to Seattle. Both our flights left at about 3:30pm, so we had about 2 hours to stay in the lounge. Once it was time to go, I gave Hunter a big hug and we went our seperate ways.

Our plane on arrival

Hunter and I both landed at about the same time. He drove home from vegas and I took a flight to Calgary so I could make it to Kelowna in the morning because Vancouver flights were all full. I was super lucky and got first class on a Horizon E175 from SEA to YYC. At first the gate agent gave me a seat in the back, but then when I went to board she gave me one of the seats up front. As we flew to Calgary, I realized that because I needed to clear customs, I would be dumped out into the landside of the airport with no way to get back in that night, so I started looking for cheap hotels. I wasn't able to find anything great, so I asked my flight attendant what their crew hotel was. She didn't know the name because this was her first overnight in YYC, but she asked me why I wanted to know and I told her because I am stuck here tonight. She then generously offered for me to share her room with her which I accepted! The crew was fantastic and it was great to have a safe place to sleep. I woke up early and quietly left the next morning (October 15, 2019) at 7am for my 8:20am departure to Kelowna. Flying YYC YLW is fun because you time travel! We arrived at 8:15am in Kelowna. I went home and got ready for my classes.

And this concludes Hunter's and my Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend adventure! I hope you enjoy all the pictures.

Till next time,
Stormy & Hunter
