Ayung River

Today (Tuesday June 6) we woke up early again, around 7am, to get ready for a fun-filled day. Of course, we started the day with another delicious breakfast!

Authentic breakfast our waiter friend suggested

After breakfast, we went back to our room to get ready for our activity. Today's exciting activity is white water rafting the Ayung River in Ubud! We chose to book with Mason Adventures, the best rafting company in Bali and the longest at 12km! Many famous people have also used Mason Adventures, including Steve Irwin and seemingly every politician from the early 2000s!

Once we arrived at the tour company, we were fed a simple lunch before being shuttled to the start of our rafting trip. Here we were given our life jackets, paddles, and helmets. We then started the trek of 643 stairs down into the ravine, and boy oh boy was that a workout! It was a bit slippery, so you had to really control each step you took and by the bottom, our legs were all jiggly already!

Lunch was not quite as exciting as dinner

Hiking to the river

At the bottom, we found out Hunter and I were given a private raft and guide which we were not expecting! We were given our safety briefing and then began our journey down the river. Along the way, we got to see some pretty impressive jungle views. We had a mix of overcast and rain, but it made for a lovely day since it wasn't too hot! There were also different stopping points for snacks riverside which was pretty cool!

Finally to the river!

Happy Hunter

So many stairs!

Once we were done rafting around 2:30pm, we got to head back up 300 stairs to the main center we started at. We said goodbye to our amazing guide, and then headed to the showers to rinse off. After getting cleaned up, we then went to the office to pick out our pictures/videos before meeting our ride back to the St Regis. Even though the distance isn't terribly far, the roads in Bali are pretty small with a lot of traffic, so it takes longer to get places.

Riverside photo op, there were also some snack shacks you could pull off at, not quite the same as rafting in national parks in the US like we are used to doing

The whitewater was the perfect mix of fun and tranquil, we had a blast without being exhausted and the light rain kept things nice and cool

We finally got back to our hotel around 5:30 pm and Hunter, being the best ever, had delicious iced coffees waiting for us poolside. We sipped on our drinks, had a swim, and napped poolside for a bit.

Dead stormy

Overall we were pretty tired from the day's events, and it didn't take long for me to be ready for an early bedtime. Neither of us was especially hungry and we had fruit/snacks available, so we didn't order anything for dinner. We actually don't have any photos past 5:30pm today!
